Michigan’s graduated driver licensing process requires that teens 17 and younger take Segment 1, Segment 2 and a Driving Test. Requirement:

Students must be 14 years and 8 months to 17 years old. Please read all of the information on this page carefully BEFORE you choose a class and register your student. 

Driving instruction:

Driving instructors will set up drives with students around their schedule. On the first day of class, students need to know their availability during the three weeks of class as instructors may begin assigning driving times that day.

Important

After successfully completing Segment 1, students will receive a Segment 1 Certificate. This certificate needs to be taken to the Secretary of State to obtain a Level 1 License as soon as possible. The process will be explained to students in class, but students and parents should read the Segment 1 Certificate for more information. Please keep this certificate in a safe place.
