WEEK 1: AUTO CARE & MAINTENANCE

Instructor: Tim McCall
This hands-on workshop teaches basic car maintenance skills that every adult should know. Participants will gain confidence in managing unexpected car troubles and making informed decisions about repairs.

  • Check/Change Tires: Learn how to assess tire pressure, recognize wear, and safely change a flat.
  • Check/Change Oil: Understand when and how to check oil levels, and how to do a basic oil change.
  • Repairs: Recognize common car issues, know when DIY is safe, and how to communicate with mechanics.

WEEK 2: HOME MAINTENANCE

Instructors: Jay Benoit
An introduction to the responsibilities and decisions of owning a home. Whether you're considering buying or just want to be more knowledgeable, this week covers the essentials.

  • Inspections: What to expect in a home inspection, red flags to look for, and questions to ask.
  • Home Repairs: Identifying routine maintenance needs and small fixes to prevent bigger problems.
  • DIY vs. Contracted Work: Know your limits—when it’s safe to DIY and when to call in the pros.

WEEK 3: FITNESS, HEALTH & WELLNESS

Instructors: Lisa & Dena
Prioritizing your health doesn’t have to be overwhelming. This week offers approachable strategies for maintaining physical and mental well-being.

  • Self-Care: Explore daily practices that support emotional and mental health.
  • Easy Mindfulness Techniques: Learn tools like breathwork and short meditations to manage stress.
  • Basic Nutrition: Understand food labels, portion sizes, and building a balanced plate.
  • Fitness: Discover simple ways to move your body at home or on a budget—no gym required.

WEEK 4: COOKING BASICS FOR BUSY ADULTS

Instructor: Chef Joe
This session focuses on making cooking approachable and practical. Participants will learn how to make healthy, delicious meals without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Grocery Shopping for In-Season Produce: Save money and eat fresh with seasonal shopping tips.
  • Basic Recipes for All: Learn 2–3 go-to recipes you can build from, including prep and storage tips.
  • Cooking vs. Ordering Takeout: Explore the financial, health, and time trade-offs of eating in vs. eating out.

WEEK 5: FINANCIAL FOUNDATIONS

Instructor: Mary Pesek
Money management can be empowering. This week focuses on demystifying personal finance and helping participants make smarter financial decisions.

  • Basic Budgeting: Create a simple monthly budget and learn tips to stick with it.
  • Review of Key Topics:
    • Buying vs. Leasing a Car: Cost, maintenance, and lifestyle considerations.
    • Buying vs. Renting a Home: Financial pros/cons and long-term planning.
  • Credit Score: What affects it, why it matters, and how to improve yours.
  • Fraud Awareness: Common scams, identity protection tips, and how to spot red flags.
