Let your child’s imagination run wild in Outside the Lines, a six-week art class designed to build confidence and creativity through hands-on exploration. By encouraging experimentation across multiple styles and materials, this course helps young artists understand that creativity truly has no boundaries. Students will experiment with a variety of materials, including gouache, watercolor, oil pastels, and mixed media, while learning about famous art movements like surrealism and cubism in a fun, supportive environment. Encouraging expression over perfection, Outside the Lines inspires kids to explore art fearlessly, think imaginatively, and find joy in every brushstroke. Week 1: Printmaking Exploration Creating Patterns & Repetition: Students will learn the basics of printmaking by designing and carving their own stamps using foam print boards. They’ll experiment with pattern, color, and layering to create unique, repeatable prints. Week 2: Mediums & Materials Playing with Paint & Texture: This week focuses on experimentation. Students will explore gouache, oil pastels, watercolor, and acrylic paint to understand how each medium behaves — discovering favorite tools and combinations through guided activities. Week 3: Cubism & Creative Construction Art from Shapes: Inspired by artists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, students will create one cohesive image from many geometric shapes. They’ll learn to see everyday subjects in new ways — breaking them apart and reassembling them through a cubist lens. Week 4: Surrealism & Imagination Dreamlike Worlds: Children will dive into surrealism by creating “mixed-up masterpieces,” such as combining two animals into one or designing imaginative dream scenes. This session encourages storytelling through art and celebrates the power of imagination. Week 5: Abstract Expressionism Art Inspired by Emotion: Students will use various mediums to express feelings and moods through color, movement, and sound. Music will accompany this session, helping young artists translate rhythm and emotion into bold, expressive artworks. Week 6: Mixed Media Masterpieces Mixed Up Magic: Students will use their creativity and artistic expression to create a multi-textured mixed media piece. Materials may include buttons, foam, fabric, metal, paper, and found objects — encouraging open-ended exploration and personal expression.
