Thanks to a partnership with artist Andrew Sigman, MSU Extension, and 4-H Macomb, students can explore digital art using classroom-provided iPads, Apple Pencils, and the powerful Procreate app. This hands-on 4-week series introduces young creators to the essentials of digital illustration in a fun, accessible, and beginner-friendly environment. Each session builds on the last, starting with a guided introduction to Procreate’s tools and features and gradually moving into sketching, inking, coloring, and layout techniques. By the end of the series, students will have the foundational skills needed to begin crafting and publishing their own webcomics—and the confidence to continue growing as digital artists. Mid-Winter Break Mythical Art CampYouth: Creative ArtsStep into a world of imagination at our three-day kids art camp inspired by mythical characters from favorite movies like K-Pop Demon Hunters, How to Train Your Dragon, and Trolls! During mid-winter break, young artists will explore fantasy creatures, heroic characters, and magical worlds through hands-on artmaking. Each day, campers will complete two projects, experimenting with painting, sculpting, and mixed-media techniques and learning new skills while expressing their own creative ideas. From colorful dragons and fierce demon hunters to playful trolls, kids will design original characters and bring them to life using a variety of art materials. Outside the Lines - Kid's Art ClassYouth: Creative ArtsLet your child’s imagination run wild in Outside the Lines, a six-week art class designed to build confidence and creativity through hands-on exploration. By encouraging experimentation across multiple styles and materials, this course helps young artists understand that creativity truly has no boundaries. Students will experiment with a variety of materials, including gouache, watercolor, oil pastels, and mixed media, while learning about famous art movements like surrealism and cubism in a fun, supportive environment. Encouraging expression over perfection, Outside the Lines inspires kids to explore art fearlessly, think imaginatively, and find joy in every brushstroke. Week 1: Printmaking Exploration Creating Patterns & Repetition: Students will learn the basics of printmaking by designing and carving their own stamps using foam print boards. They’ll experiment with pattern, color, and layering to create unique, repeatable prints. Week 2: Surrealism & Imagination Dreamlike Worlds: Children will dive into surrealism by creating “mixed-up masterpieces,” such as combining two animals into one or designing imaginative dream scenes. This session encourages storytelling through art and celebrates the power of imagination. Week 3: Abstract Expressionism Art Inspired by Emotion: Students will use various mediums to express feelings and moods through color, movement, and sound. Music will accompany this session, helping young artists translate rhythm and emotion into bold, expressive artworks. Week 4: Mixed Media Masterpieces Mixed Up Magic: Students will use their creativity and artistic expression to create a multi-textured mixed media piece.
