Built By Me: Beginner Web Design & Coding Program

Turn your ideas into a real website! Built By Me: Web Design Academy is a six-week, hands-on coding course designed for middle and high school students who want to explore the creative world of web design. No previous coding experience is required. Through engaging lessons and guided projects, students will learn the fundamentals of HTML and CSS while developing valuable digital skills that can serve as a foundation for future education and careers.

Throughout the six-week program, students will design and build their own one-page fictional restaurant website from the ground up. Along the way, they'll discover how websites are created, organized, and styled while expressing their own creativity through custom designs.

What Students Will Learn

• Build a fully functional one-page website using HTML and CSS.
• Design a scrolling website featuring sections such as a menu, about page, image gallery, and contact information.
• Customize their website with colors, fonts, images, layouts, and other creative design elements.
• Understand the fundamentals of webpage structure, responsive thinking, and introductory user experience (UX) concepts.
• Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills through hands-on coding challenges.
• Gain confidence using creative technology while completing a project they can proudly share with family and friends.

By the end of the course, students won't just understand how websites work. They'll have built one themselves. Whether they're curious about technology, interested in graphic design, or simply enjoy creating something from scratch, Built By Me: Web Design Academy offers an exciting introduction to coding in a fun, collaborative, and supportive environment.

Additional information: Participants must have access to a computer or laptop with internet capability for hands-on coding activities and website development projects. If an on-site computer lab is unavailable, participants will need to use personal laptops when permitted by the facility. Students will need access to an email address to create accounts for beginner-friendly online coding platforms used during class activities. Basic computer navigation skills are recommended.

Instructor qualifications: Rhakagi Wahhab is the founder of R Web Designs LLC and creator of Built By Me: Web Design Academy. She is an experienced web designer, educator, and technology instructor who has taught students digital literacy, business technology, web design, and computer applications. Rhakagi currently teaches technology and career-focused courses and has experience creating beginner-friendly coding lessons that make technology approachable, creative, and engaging for students of varying skill levels.
