Lines That Last: An Engraving Workshop with Suki LiuAdult: Creative ArtsIn this two hour beginner-friendly engraving class, we will discuss the basics of rotary engraving on glass surfaces by local engraver Suki Liu. We will go over a brief introduction, discuss the different types of engraving available, troubleshoot various surfaces, and some do’s and don’ts of engraving. Students will practice with rotary tools provided by the instructor for in-class use as well as other basic tools needed, learn about basic strokes, safety precautions, and how to finish your piece with a metallic finish, as well as some tips and tricks along the way to help students engrave their very own piece. This class will include 1 item for you to engrave and take home as a keepsake, as well as a guide book on the class curriculum. Although the drills are for in-class use only, students will be able to purchase their own “complete engraving kit” for an additional cost at the end of the class if they choose, this is completely optional. This class is perfect for anyone looking for a unique way to level up their gifting, as personalized engraving takes gifting to the next level, providing a deep and personal sentiment to your next present. About The Instructor Suki Liu is a calligraphy and hand engraving artist based in the greater Metro Detroit area, and is the owner of Signed By Suki, where she builds connection through artistry through the art of personalization. Administered by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, MHFA is the nation's leading mental health skills training program. Similar to CPR, MHFA equips individuals with practical skills to provide initial support until appropriate professional help is obtained, or a crisis is resolved. During this interactive course, participants will learn to identify early, and escalating signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use concerns, how to approach and support someone who may be struggling, and strategies for connecting individuals with appropriate resources. The training also explores risk factors, protective factors, and ways to reduce stigma surrounding mental health. This course is designed for adults who want to be better prepared to support friends, family members, coworkers, neighbors, or members of their community. No prior mental health experience is required. Come dressed in your favorite school-appropriate Halloween costume! Whether you're a superhero, a classic monster, a movie character, or something completely original, you'll have the chance to compete for our Best Costume Awards. Creativity is encouraged, but masks that fully cover the face and prop weapons are not permitted. Each ticket includes a voucher for one slice of Jet's Pizza (cheese, pepperoni, and gluten-free options available). Need a snack break? Additional pizza slices, chips, cookies, and other treats will be available for $2 each. Both cash and credit cards are accepted, and complimentary water will be available throughout the evening.
